Today's road hazard was:
- A State Trooper - Maybe he was sleeping, maybe he was looking for speeders, but he was causing a 2 mile backup as everyone passed him at 25 miles per hour [in a 55].

Just wondering why people are reducing their speed to 25mph in a 55 zone.
Posted by: mikem at September 12, 2005 9:22 AMSlowing down to look at the cop. Most people take their foot off the gas pedal if they see ANYTHING unusual. Enough doing this will jam traffic , as it tends to bunch up like a slinky, rather than behave linearly.
I've seen really garish Christmas displays near the freeway cause similar congestion.
That makes sense. I've sat in traffic jams with only a flat tire on the shoulder as a possible explanation.
