Tax reform likely to cause a lot of heartache

President Bush's tax advisory panel was charged with creating a simpler tax code. If their suggestions are implemented, it could mean that mortgage interest and other deductions that taxpayers have come to expect may disappear.

As long as this simpler code doesn't require me to pay more taxes, I'm all for it.

Why do I get the feeling, though, that this simplification will result in a more progressive tax and ultimately be a lot more complex?

This will indeed become more complicated before it is over. I'm still crossing my fingers about getting the fairtax passed.
