Doctor, doctor, can't you see I'm burning, burning

Californiastan is considering experimenting with socialized medicine. The government provided coverage would apparently supplant your private insurance.

The state Senate approved a bill Tuesday to create a universal health care system overseen by an elected commissioner, although many of the details have yet to be worked out.

Sen. Sheila Kuehl, D-Santa Monica, urged senators to send her measure to the Assembly so negotiations can continue, with no funding plan likely to be added until next year. Senators agreed on a 24-14 vote...

Kuehl's bill would replace private insurance plans as well as cover the currently uninsured.

Opponents estimate the plan will cost as much as $8 Billion a year. Five bucks says it's at least three times that amount.

They're running in the red now for a decade, and they want to implement universal health care?

How did so many morons end up in California? Is it the water?

That is sure to stem the tide of illegals entering the US via CA's border, now isn't it?

Hope is on the horizon, Kevin. Yesterday I heard about a milblogger (currently serving in Iraq) who intends to run against Maxine Waters in November 2006.

Distant horizon, but on it's way.

Well, assuming there's 30million people (just a SWAG) in KA, at $8bil that works out to a per capita annual cost of $267. So, yeah, tripple it. *If* everybody paid their fair share a family of 4 would then owe $3200/year.

Considering that my employer pays over $9000 and I pay over $2000 each year (for our family of 3 at the moment) in health insurance premiums, that sure sounds like a heck of a bargain, so long as my employer would return 1/2 of their current share to me as added salary. Course that won't happen.

So, I call BS. It'd be more like $50billion.

This may be the kick in the pants I need to finally get off my butt and move to AZ.
