The headline reads Man shot dead in Wyandanch. If you read the fine print though, you'll find out that the "man" who was shot dead was climbing through someone's window at 2:30 in the morning.
And of course since it happened in the People's Republic of New York, the householder is being charged with criminal possession of a firearm.

Bah.. too bad the serial number had been defaced. Wonder if the guy bought the gun legally and defaced it himself. I'd like to see some good investigative reporting for a change.
Posted by: Dan Newbanks at February 22, 2005 10:32 AMI have to wonder if the "defaced" charge is trumped up too. I wouldn't put it past them to find a scratch on one of the serial numbers and call it "defacement" even though the number is perfectly legible.
