How to Get Federal Spending Under Control

iconExcellent plan. But it will never happen.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship." -- Professor Alexander Tytler.

I love the quote, but apparently the attribution to Tytler is erroneous. Nobody can find a copy of the supposed book, or any other source for it. So the guy who runs Curmudgeonly & Skeptical has decided that from now on he should be given attribution.

Fine with me. I love the quote. Don't care who said it first.

Yeah, I know. Bartleby has always had it listed as unverified. I'm not dissuaded from using it though.
