Atheism has become the official religion of France, and the government is recommending banning "Islamic head scarves, Jewish skullcaps and large crucifixes". Soviet French official Bernard Stasi claimed that religious "forces are trying to destabilize the country", and that the lack of any religion will help bring all the different people together under an iron curtain of hope.
