Ravenwood's Musings

iconHere are some musings that just didn't merit a full entry in the weblog.

  • It looks like Gray Davis' attempt to woo the illegal alien vote may wreak havoc for California citizens. Fox News notes:
Because of security concerns, some states may also decide not to accept California driver's licenses as ID, saying the new law there sends the message that immigration rules are meaningless.
Maybe Davis will promise to repeal the law if he's allowed to stay in office.

  • As much as I hate the BCS, I don't like the idea of Congress meddling with the system. After drawing Congressional ire, the BCS affiliates are already talking about an affirmative action program for non-BCS conferences.

  • In other NCAA football news, Maurice Clarett's days at Ohio State are numbered. The school has already said he won't play football, and it looks like he may lose his scholarship. He also faces criminal misdemeanor charges for overstating the value of goods that were stolen. Clarett is mulling suing the NFL for early entry, but I don't see the legal merit of his case. The NFL may go easy on the star running back, but legally, they should be able to set whatever hiring practices they want. Even though his mess is largely self created, it is still sad to watch a young man on the path to self destruction.

  • The new currency looks gay. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) Has the "gay fever" that's hit prime time also hit the federal treasury?

  • If you haven't heard, Blogger was purchased by Google. As a result, Blogger Pro features are going to be rolled into the free version of Blogger. As a reward to Blogger Pro subscribers (like I used to be) we all are to receive a free Blogger hooded sweatshirt.

I was thrilled (not) when I got the email that told me that I was eligible for a free sweatshirt. A lot too little, a lot too late.

I agree that this whole Clarett thing is pretty sad. I blame it as much on the fans as I do Maurice though...we heaped too much praise on him too early.

He may still have a chance to stay at OSU, as they offered him a deal today (http://www.onnnews.com/story.php?record=26608), but he'll still be out the rest of this year. I hope he takes it. He's not ready for the NFL anyway.

Yeah the new 20's do look kinda gay. At least they still have Jackson on them. Hell, these days it could have been Pat Schroeder.

I believe that Claretts learned to carry a football by practicing running with stolen goods under his arm. Whatta maroon.
