CD-Rs deliver degrading experience


iconYour CD-Rs may be degrading faster than tape, notes The Register. A Dutch firm has done some testing, and found that cheap CD-R media written just 18 months ago may be completely unreadable. The culprit may be cheap, unstable dyes used by the manufacturer, and premium brands may not be affected as much. They also note that recording speed has nothing to do with it.
