Nevada Gov. asks Supreme Court to raise taxes for him

iconThere is something interesting going on in Nevada.

Gov. Kenny Guinn [a Republican] asked the Nevada Supreme Court on Tuesday to order the Legislature to raise taxes after lawmakers failed to fund a new public schools budget.

Guinn made the request as the new fiscal year opened without legislative approval of $864 million in new taxes or a K-12 schools budget.

I guess after seeing the SCOTUS circumvent the state legislative process, he wants to see if he can do the same with his own supreme court. If that doesn't work, perhaps he can get Sandra Day O'Conner to rule that the Nevada legislature has a "compelling interest" to raise taxes.

If at first you don't succeed, circumvent it in court.
