An Associated Press dispatch on Howard Dean, who is to be chosen tomorrow as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, claims that Dean "came close to winning the Democratic presidential nomination before collapsing in early 2004 in Iowa."That's like saying a horse came close to winning a race before collapsing as he came out of the starting gate.
